It was founded by Katherine Power, who previously co-founded or worked with brands like Who What Wear and Versed. The brand launched direct-to-consumer in January 2021 via meritbeauty.com, and then expanded into retail (notably Sephora) in February 2021. It emphasizes “responsible luxury,” meaning cleaner ingredient standards, cruelty-free & vegan certification, and consideration of sustainable or lower-impact packaging. Their products are manufactured in various locations (U.S., South Korea, Italy) and their brushes in China. So the brand positions itself as a more thoughtful alternative to heavy-makeup lines — less about maximalism and more about essential, wearable beauty.

Merit’s UK site offers a selection of their core product lines adapted for UK customers. Some key categories & items include:

Payment Methods

• Credit / Debit Cards: Visa, Mastercard, and American Express.

• PayPal (UK) — they accept PayPal for UK orders.

• Apple Pay — also accepted in supported cases.

• Shop Pay — they list it in their accepted payment methods.

They explicitly do not accept prepaid gift cards, checks, or money orders.

Once payment is made, orders cannot be canceled. If you no longer want the item, you’d need to refuse delivery or send back unopened packages (as “Return to Sender”) to get a refund.

• Merit ships to the UK (among other countries) via carriers like Evri (for UK standard/express) and possibly DPD / others depending on situation.

• Orders to PO boxes or freight forwarding addresses are not accepted.

Shipping Costs & Free Shipping Threshold

• For UK orders £50 GBP or more, standard shipping is free (pre-tax, pre-shipping cost).

• For orders under £50 GBP, standard shipping fee is £7, and expedited / express shipping is £13.

• Processing time: Orders are usually processed within 1–3 business days (no weekends / holidays) before being shipped.

• Delivery times:

  • Standard UK shipping: 3 – 5 business days after processing.

  • Express shipping: 1 – 2 business days after processing.

• Fragrance / Retrospect: Orders including the fragrance (Retrospect) cannot be expedited — they ship only via ground methods.

Returns / Refunds Policy (UK)

• They offer a 30-day guarantee on products purchased from their website — you can request an exchange or refund within 30 days of delivery.

• Shipping charges (for sending) are not refunded.

• Fragrance (Retrospect) is excluded: physical returns of the fragrance are not accepted due to shipping / hazard logistics.

• Products bought from Sephora (in-store or on Sephora UK) are not subject to Merit’s return policy — you would need to use Sephora’s returns policy.

• Once a return is approved, refunds are processed within 3 to 5 business days. But depending on your bank/payment method, it may take up to 10 business days to reflect in your account.
