General information about Amazon
Amazon is an e-commerce company founded in 1994 in the USA. Started as an online marketplace for selling books, over the years, Amazon developed into a company selling a wide range of various products. The Canadian storefront, amazon.ca, launched in 2002 and operates as a separate marketplace with its own pricing, stock and Prime membership — an account or subscription on amazon.com does not carry over.
What can be bought in Amazon?
At Amazon, customers can find books, electronics, video games, movies, music, TV series, home appliances, pet essentials, clothes, accessories, shoes, jewelry, toys, baby items, sports equipment, tools, cosmetics, handmade picks and many more different categories.
How to actually save on Amazon.ca
Clip the coupons
Amazon's own Coupons page collects every clippable offer currently live on amazon.ca. Clip before adding to cart — clipping afterwards does not apply the discount retroactively, which is the most common reason shoppers think a coupon failed.
Subscribe & Save
Recurring deliveries of household staples take up to 15% off, and the discount scales with how many subscriptions arrive in the same month. You can cancel any time, so a single scheduled delivery is a legitimate way to take the discount once.
Amazon Warehouse and Renewed
Open-box and refurbished stock — phones, laptops, cameras — is graded and carries the same returns window as new goods. On electronics this routinely beats any percentage a coupon would offer.
Time the sales events
The deepest reductions cluster around Prime Day in July, Black Friday and Cyber Monday in late November, and Boxing Day. Daily Deals and Lightning Deals run continuously in between, with limited stock and a countdown.
Amazon promo code – how to get it?
Amazon promo codes are regularly offered on their Coupons website. Another option is to do a Google search using the keywords “Amazon promo codes” and visit Picodi.com, a website that offers promo codes and cashback deals.
You can also try our Picodi extension, which will automatically check if any Amazon promo code is available and will also apply it to your order.
Amazon promo code – how to use it?
In the case of coupons from Amazon’s coupons subpage, the coupons claimed there will automatically be applied to your order. For all other Amazon promo codes, here’s a step-by-step guide on how to use them:
- Visit Picodi.com and search for Amazon.
- Select an Amazon promo code which suits your order and click “Reveal the Code”
- Do your shopping on the Amazon website as usual.
- At checkout, find the “Promos” section after you select your payment method.
- Promo will be applied to your order.
Our tip: Save time and effort by installing the Picodi extension, which eliminates the need to search for promo codes. This convenient tool automatically scans and applies the most suitable Amazon promo codes to your cart. You can download the extension from here.
What should I do if Amazon promo code doesn't work?
The code could expire, the number of its uses could be limited in use, it doesn't apply the items in your cart, or you did not spend a minimum amount needed for the code to work. First, you should check whether all those requirements have been met. Two causes are specific to Amazon: the item may be sold by a third-party seller the promotion excludes, and a clipped coupon only applies if it was clipped before the item went into your cart. Remove the item, clip, then add it again.
What Amazon promo code exists?
Amazon's discounts come in four forms: clippable product coupons, brand or category promotions run by individual sellers, Subscribe & Save reductions, and Prime-exclusive pricing. Sitewide codes covering the whole of amazon.ca are the rare exception, not the rule.
Does Amazon give a discount on the first purchase?
There is no standing first-order discount at Amazon.ca. What new customers can use is the 30-day free Prime trial, which removes the $35 shipping minimum for its duration — cancel before it ends and it costs nothing.
Amazon free delivery – availability and terms
Amazon.ca ships free on orders of CAD $35 or more of eligible items, with no membership required. The threshold counts only items marked eligible for free shipping, so a cart can pass $35 and still attract a fee if part of it is sold by third-party sellers outside the programme.
Prime members get free fast shipping on eligible items with no minimum at all, which is the main reason the membership pays for itself for regular shoppers.
Ordering from amazon.com to Canada — what it really costs
A price on amazon.com that looks lower than amazon.ca often isn't, once it lands. Cross-border orders are quoted in US dollars, converted at the card issuer's rate, and can attract import duties and GST/HST or PST collected before delivery.
Amazon's Global Store shows an Import Fees Deposit at checkout that estimates these charges upfront and refunds the difference if the actual cost comes in lower. Before assuming the US site is cheaper, compare the landed total rather than the sticker price — and check that the item is even shippable to Canada, since many are not.
What other offers are available in Amazon?
Amazon provides its customers discounts on selected items, categories and brands, together with occasional discounts for specific days, seasons or special shopping events.
Does Amazon have a loyalty program?
Yes, there is an Amazon Prime loyalty program at Amazon offering its members free delivery on selected items, exclusive deals, and access to hit movies, TV shows and eBooks. In Canada it costs $9.99 a month or $99 a year plus tax, with a student rate of $4.99 a month. The annual plan works out cheaper than ten monthly payments, so it pays off from roughly ten months of continuous use — or sooner if you would otherwise be paying shipping on sub-$35 orders.
Amazon mobile app – is it worth it?
It’s worth downloading the Amazon mobile app, available both in Google Play and App Store, as the app has excellent ratings and reviews. On Google Play, the app is rated 4.2 ★ with 3.47M ratings. On the App Store, the app reached an average rating of 4.8 ★ with 7.7M ratings.
Is shopping at Amazon safe?
Yes, Amazon uses the HTTPS protocol, meaning your data is protected. Orders placed through Amazon are also covered by the A-to-z Guarantee, which extends to items sold by third-party sellers — worth knowing, since a large share of amazon.ca listings are not sold by Amazon itself.
Amazon payment methods
Amazon accepts Visa, Mastercard, American Express, prepaid credit cards, gift cards, Affirm, and Amazon Wallet as payment methods.
Amazon delivery methods
Beyond delivery to your address, Amazon.ca offers Amazon Lockers and Amazon Counter pickup points, useful if you'd rather not leave parcels at the door. Prime members in larger urban areas also get same-day and next-day options on eligible items. Delivery speed and available methods are shown per item before checkout, since they depend on which fulfilment centre holds the stock.
Amazon refunds and cancellations – how do they work?
You can return your order and get your money back within 30 days of delivery, except for the selected items that cannot be returned. To cancel your order, go to “Your orders” at Amazon and check the box next to the order you would like to cancel. Items must be in original or unused condition, and Amazon can take up to 30 days to receive and process a return once you've sent it. Cancellation only works while the order is still marked as not yet shipped — after that the option disappears and you have to return the item instead.
Amazon reviews
Amazon’s reviews on Trustpilot are rather negative with a rating of 1.6 ★ and 288 reviews received, 48% of which rating are 1 ★ ratings.
