Average wages: in which country people earn the most?

PicodiAugust 20, 2020

Picodi.com analysis team looked into earnings in countries around the world and created a global ranking of average wages.

Eldorado discovered

We processed data from Numbeo, a website which surveys hundreds of thousands of citizens of various countries, asking them about the costs of living and actual earnings (after taxes).

Switzerland, where the average wage converted into ringgits amounts to RM25,550, tops the ranking. It is followed by Luxembourg and the United States, whose citizens earn RM17,125 and RM15,077 respectively. Malaysia, on the other hand, with the average wage of RM3,566, placed 47th, outranking countries such as Hungary (RM3,171), Jordan (RM2,758), or Russia (RM1,963). Cuba, Uganda and Nigeria, close the ranking with wages between RM155 and RM784.

When it comes to Asian countries, Malaysia ended up in the middle of the ranking (8th out of 16). It was outrun by countries such as New Zealand (RM11,182), Japan (RM11,095), South Korea (RM9,841), or China (RM4,103). Following was Thailand (RM2,639), India (RM1,864), Vietnam (RM1,721), and the Philippines (RM1,314). The ultimate leaders are Singapore, Australia, and Hong Kong — the only countries with average wages higher than RM12,000.
